March 2021

HB196/SB172 COVID-19 Response and Relief Bill was introduced and passed in both the House and Senate on March 1; and was signed into law by Governor Cooper on March 11, 2021.  In this large bill there was a provision granting authority for immunizing pharmacists to administer long-acting injectable drugs. This bill is effective immediately, but does sunset when the COVID-19 emergency is lifted.  Therefore, we have also introduced legislation (see our medication administration issue) that is broader and would be permanent to allow pharmacists to administer injectable drugs.
