Current Status

Senate Bill 575 was heard by the Senate Health Committee on May 6th, and passed unanimously.  Penny Shelton, NCAP Executive Director, and Cortney Mospan, Associate Professor at Wingate University both spoke to the committee.  The bill was reported out favorably by the Senate Rules Committee on May 10th and was passed by the Senate 49-0 on May 11th.  The bill was sent over to the House and it has been referred to the House Rules Committee.

What You Can Do Now

There is still quite a bit of work to be done on the language of the bill, and NCAP will be working diligently to improve the content of the bill.  However, you can help by familiarizing yourself with the infographic material available on this website for this bill.   If you work with physicians who believe that pharmacists should be allowed to prescribe and dispense tobacco cessation products, hormonal contraception, and post-exposure prophylaxis for HIV exposure, then recruit these physicians to speak out in favor of this bill, and you and those physicians contact your legislators to as for their support of S575.  Stand ready for when we issue alerts to to contact various committee members.
